1. General information
The main objective of this subject is that the student acquires a theoretical and practical knowledge of the main features, conventions and genres of academic discourse in English . It is also intended to familiarize them with the vocabulary, expressions, strategies and basic research techniques that can help them in the presentation of oral and written works in the different subjects of the degree.
These approaches and objectives are aligned with the following Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations Agenda 2030 (https://www.un.org/sustainabledevelopment/es/ ), so that the acquisition of the learning results of the subject provides training and competence to contribute to some extent to their achievement: Goals 4, 5, 10, 16 and 17.
2. Learning results

Identify the main features, conventions and organizational strategies of academic discourse in written and spoken English and be able to use them in written and oral productions at a B2 level

Understand and summarize written texts in academic English in their field of specialization.

Understand the content and organization of a class, lecture or seminar in English and take notes.

Produce written texts in academic English at an intermediate level (B2).

Prepare oral presentations in academic English at an intermediate level (B2).

Identify and select reliable sources of specialized information, both printed and online, and correctly cite the different sources of information

Express a critical and reflective stance on an academic topic of their specialty.

4. Academic activities
Presentation, study and practice of the lexical-grammatical, discursive, sociolinguistic and strategic contents necessary to reinforce oral and written comprehension and expression in academic English at a B2 level
Individual and group tutorials in which advice and supervision will be provided for the completion of assignments
Preparation of a written paper and an oral presentation

5. Assessment system
First call:
Completion of a global evaluation test, comprising the following parts:
1) A written comprehension test in which both reading comprehension and the ability to identify linguistic and discursive features in the proposed text will be assessed (20 % of the final grade)
2) A listening comprehension test in which both listening comprehension skills and the ability to identify linguistic and discursive features in the proposed text will be assessed (20% of the final grade)
3) A written test with theoretical-practical questions on the lexical-grammatical and discursive contents of the subject (20 % of the final grade).
(ii) Production of a written text. The ability to define concepts, relate ideas and credit sources of information according to the conventions of academic work in the humanities will be assessed (20% of the final grade).
4) An oral expression test (in group) in which the ability to communicate fluently (monologue and interaction) on topics and texts related to the academic field will be assessed (20% of the final grade)
In order to pass this subject, in the different skills, it will be necessary to pass each part of the exam.
